The Pz.Bef.Wg.III Ausf.K, or Panzerbefehlswagen III Ausführung K, was a command variant of the German Panzer III tank, developed during World War II. This model featured enhanced communication equipment to coordinate battlefield operations more effectively. Unlike standard Panzer III tanks, the Ausf.K had additional radios and a distinctive frame antenna, crucial for maintaining communication with other units. The tank was powered by a Maybach HL 120 TRM engine, which allowed it to reach speeds of up to 40 km/h. Armed with a 5 cm KwK 39 L/60 main gun and an MG 34 machine gun, it was capable of defending itself while fulfilling its command role.
The addition of Schurzen, or skirt armour, provided extra protection against anti-tank weapons and small arms fire, enhancing the survivability of the Ausf.K on the battlefield. This spaced armour was typically attached to the sides of the hull and turret, helping to deflect and absorb incoming projectiles. The combination of robust communication capabilities and increased armour made the Pz.Bef.Wg.III Ausf.K a vital asset for German armoured divisions, allowing for better coordination and resilience in combat scenarios.
Border Model’s precision kit can be built in two different configurations, and includes a metal main gun barrel, and PE parts for maximum detail. Metal Schurzen are included, as well as four marking schemes.
